What FAQ schema actually does today
FAQPage structured data marks up question-and-answer content so machines — not just Google, but any system parsing your page — can tell exactly which text is a question and which text answers it. It's worth being upfront about one thing: since August 2023, Google limits the visual expandable FAQ rich snippet in search results to a small set of authoritative government and health sites. For most sites, adding this schema won't by itself produce that expandable dropdown in the search results anymore.
That doesn't make it pointless. Clean, well-marked-up FAQ content still helps traditional search engines and AI-driven answer engines — the systems increasingly summarizing pages directly in chat answers or "AI Overviews" — correctly extract and attribute your Q&A content instead of guessing at it from unstructured HTML. Structured data remains one of the clearest signals you can hand a machine about what your content actually means, even when the payoff isn't a visual rich result.
If you do add it, keep the questions and answers in the schema identical to what's visibly on the page — Google's structured data guidelines require that, and mismatched schema is a common reason sites get flagged in Search Console.

The extractor looks for real heading tags (H2/H3) that end in a question mark, followed by paragraph text. If your questions are just bold text, or the page needs JavaScript to render its content, it may come back empty — add your Q&A by hand instead, it works exactly the same way.
Wrap it in a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag and place it anywhere in your page's HTML — most commonly the <head>. Most CMS platforms (WordPress, Webflow, Shopify) have a "custom code" or "header scripts" field for exactly this.
Yes — Google's guidelines require the questions and answers in your schema to match what a visitor actually sees on the page. Don't add questions here that aren't genuinely answered in your content.
